Prayer for Guidance and Help

Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for
your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis
and need a supporting hand to keep me on the
right and just path. My heart is troubled but I will
strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom
will show me the right way to a just and right resolution.
Thank you for hearing my prayer and for staying by my side.
Amen!

Am Back!

From the month of March to April, I think I had a few things going on.

Probably resting, looking out for a job, clearing out my flat for unwanted things, church, getting my skin back on track by eating well and cooking for myself. Many things were a first: Making garlic spread, steamed razor clams, drunken prawns.

In March, the hightlights were watching the HK Arts Fest and HK Film Festival, Russell Peters. I actually saw Esperanza Spalding at her concert, Momix, and Italian Opera during the HK Arts Fest! Also enjoyed Rugby Tens Live and Sevens on TV. Saw Serevi in the flesh!

In April, notably was a trip to Taiwan and a trip back home to help my parents move. My new home is now in JB. Of course my brother's birthday dinner at Etna. And signing up for a personal development course which my friend raved about. Been more active exploring the social media on my smartphone. Things like Twitter, Line, reading news and searching for jobs via Apps is a great way to surf!

I have been thinking my game plan for this year and spending a lot of time by myself to figure that out these two months.

Top of the list is to be working in something which I totally enjoy. This has been on my mind a lot and I've been looking out almost daily. That aside, I have been researching on a couple of ideas that I could do that makes me happy (but I probably only have time to do one or two of those):

- Volunteer with Hands on Hong Kong, or back to Kids 4 Kids (Waiting for HOHK to revert to me. If they don't I will go back to K4K)
- Pick up the Flute and Keyboard (Am already doing)
- Distance learning web design course so I could help my dad with a new website and maintain it: http://www.ouhk.edu.hk/WCM/?FUELAP_TEMPLATENAME=tcGenericPage2010&ITEMID=CC_COURSE_GUI_898296&BODY=tcGenericPage2010
- Travel to either Egypt, Sri Lanka, Tibet this year. This really depends on finances and time constraints
- Fitting braces as I want to improve the way my side profile looks
- Learn Driving (Not top priority)

I really have to either Climb, Learn Dance, Continue Squash and run on a more regular basis. Pictures to follow!

Growing to Love my Space! Whoop Whoop.

Time flies. it is now into March! Gasp. Couple of small victories to welcome March:

* Just sold off my arm chair that has accompanied me for my studies! :) Hopefully the new owner will cherish it as much as I did!

* Created a bit more space by using my sofa as my dining table chair. Got inspiration from these pictures!

* Watched Journey to the West directed by Stephen Chow. Nice show. Not as slapstick but still pretty enjoyable.

* My resume sending process is bearing fruit. Looking forward to speaking with more placement agents in the coming week.

* Finally I have got cable TV
Plans for the week:
* Watching The Silver Lining Playbook on Tuesday, and running on Thursday!

This song reflects my current state of mind.

Open The Door (To Your Heart) Lyrics - Van Morrison

Open the door to your heart
Open the door to your soul
Get back in the flow
Open the door to your heart

Money doesn't make you fulfilled
Money's just to pay the bills
It's need not greed
Open the door to your heart

You've got eyes to see
And ears to hear
Then why don't you quit
Crying in your beer my dear

If nobody gets what they want
Tell me what's the use in that
Everybody just get's fat
Open the door to your heart

Backbiters always make mistakes
If you want to get an even break
Think of everything that's at stake
Open the door to your heart

Don't you think I know who my enemies are
Their slip is showing and the door is ajar
Well this time they pushed me too far
Open the door to your heart

If you've got eyes to see
And ears to hear
You better quit, quit
Crying in your beer my dear

If you can't hear the song you're wrong
I've been around too long
Just listen to the words that's all

Open the door to your heart
Open the door to your heart
Open the door to your soul
Got to get back in the flow
Open the door to your heart

This Week

Watched Cloud Atlas starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.

Great cosmetics involved. It talks about how love in one's past life will continue in our future lives.

Coincidentally, I went into the New Age shop across my apartment last week, and saw a poster about this concept as well.

This show transends over 500 years. And halfway during the show, it made me think of my life. Flashforward to where I would be 50 years from now, looking back. And that I should now live fully to seize the moment.

Written by David Mitchell, I suspect the book will be a more insightful read, as it is pretty complex.

****

That aside, had got my university smartcard done up, so that I could use their library and sports facilities. Whoop!

****

Major sale going on too. Got a pants and new clothes for roughly 6 SGD a piece.

****

My flat has been rearranged, again. Managed to sell off a few items. Right now, giving away the rest. I am liking my space more.

****

Week ahead: Gym on Tuesday! First time in at least 6 months.

Very nice one on Finding your purpose - Caroline M

Stumbled upon this clip. Very englightening for me.

Quote : "Everyone has a path. If you have life you have purpose. It cannot be otherwise.

Have no judgements about your life, no expectations and give up the need to know what happens tomorrow. Be Fully Present. To appreciate all that is in your life right now, wherever it is whatever it is.

To these people in the depths of despair: You had your life focussed on something that didn't belong to you and and a path that did not belong to you. Someone that did not belong to you.... You lost track of being here."

Some More Discoveries in SG

I experienced being on public transport that had faulty train in the main interchange, causing trains behind and in the route to be unable to move. The staff did nothing to allay our expectations via the intercom as to when the problem would be resolved, leaving most waiting indeterminately during Friday peak hour.
Train stayed put for at least 40 mins
Some skyline
Classmate opened a food court stall - Peranakan dish
Fengshui Advice for the year of the snake - plastered on Waterloo Street

CNY Week in Pictures

This trip back home was a good ten days. Managed to well catch up with family and friends. Caught long lost friends like yu sang, roti prata, tao huey, porridge with raw fish, chicken rice....
Lo Hei on Ren Ri - Huat!
Cocoa Moco - casting knowing glances
Lo Pak Gou from HK FLM - a hit with relatives
BC - my favourite place to be!
Hay Mee - Jumbo Prawns
Sis's Babi Assam - Irresistable
Crab Bee Hoon - Milky goodness

Memorable Weekend

Today at church, we enjoyed Candlemas. Have been able to put aside the darkness in my heart regarding last week's events at work after that. Will take things easy, and let god show me the way.

I really enjoyed D's house blessing with Father on Saturday, and her whole group of bible studies friends. I had my fill of Tahu Goreng, Glutinous rice with Coconut Milk, Curry Lamb Shank, Curry Chicken, Saya Lodeh, Duck Meat with Cantoloupe, bor bor cha cha, cheesecake and fabulously smooth French red wine. Just felt so comfortable with the whole bunch. Loved it. I am liking going to church and meeting my new friends.

Also had my eyelashes permed. That too was a first for me.

During the week, I attended the talk by Prof J. It was eye-opening in terms of the Anglican's views on Marriage, Divorce and homosexuality. He said that Anglicans, in speech, should use words signifying "probably" instead of "in certainty". The thinking behind it is, that we not know the background of the other party, and so it is not right to make a judgement on others in certainty.

I am very thankful to have such a great round up to the week.

Looking ahead, I fly home this Thursday for a 10 day break.

Today

The doctor prescribed me a day's Medical Leave for a nasal allergy. This allergy seems to give me a headache throughout the day. It is common to develop respiratory problems given the sky high pollution levels daily.

Three things were on my mind today, my tax bill, cable TV subscription and my future direction. Strange how the very mundane counts as a weighty issue when you are living by yourself! Managed to sit myself down and clear two out of the three.

It was a good day to rest, and to compartmentalize my thoughts. Keeping in mind the "big picture", I steadied and re-focussed what I would like to do, and the open mode of thinking I should adopt.

From A's advice, I should do something that I like / find interesting, at the same time useful and complements my long term goal.  Learn more about the business, or take a break and do something different.

Couldn't agree more. What I need to figure out is: how do I get to doing that? Where should I start? What role could I do with my current skill-set? Will think and observe a bit more.

Meanwhile, to keep myself from getting to caught up in work, I should get involved in some charity work, and exercise.

It is now nearing the end of the month. I managed to tick off one out of the two resolutions that was set at year end. How is that for a good start.

Year of The Snake

These past two weekends, I have feeling a little bit lost. And been slowly trying to figure what I wanted, and think through what I needed to do to get there. Also been checking websites to look at job offerings and reviewing my applications. Apparently the year of the snake bodes well for dogs, so fngers crossed my luck will change for the better.

And so, been spending time by myself, cooking, resting, reading, going to church. Weather has been chillish, hovering under 20 degrees, hence a strong inertia to move very much. Have been making use of my HTC,  finding new apps to keep myself updated! Through the SG news apps, I managed to follow the elections, am heartened that opposition won.

The coming week might be interesting. Prof John K is giving a talk coming Tuesday in church under the broad umbrella of ethical dilemmas and this week's topic is relationships. Also looking forward to C birthday celebration at a French establishment on Friday. Saturday will be a day of self grooming and attending D's house-blessing to round off the evening.

How I Spend my Winter

It is still cold here - hovering between 13-19 degrees. Still have the nasal cold - hoping it goes away soon. The clothing shops here are all trying to clear stock ahead of the Spring Summer collection. I managed to get 2 blazers for a real steal of under $15 SGD!

Am currently reading a book called Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, by Steve Harvey. Am halfway through it, and giving me insight on how men think and how I can control the direction of any relationship that I am in.

Drawing lessons from the book, I should have set ground rules for my partners that I were with before. I did not understand the power of communicating what I wanted, and what I expected them to do, if they wanted to make me happy. Instead I kept it all inside.

Workwise had been interesting observing how two alpha females in the team, try to wrestle for power. Unfortunately, I am not in their league, and am content to sit at the wings. This week, I realized dating is a lot like climbing the corporate ladder.

Have also built up a nice routine here at home. After work, Surf the Net / Job hunt, Cook, Plop down to watch TVB's Friendly Fire (法網狙擊), Sleep. I will blog around once a week - probably penning my thoughts on Saturday or Sunday. I will also have to practice my flute every weekend.

I will go home in about 2.5 weeks time. A bit excited to wear my new clothes and see my folks.

Here is a photo taken with my HKU fellow post-graduates!
