I met Pam for swimming and dinner on Saturday at Wanchai. So i went to look up the trusty HK version of Michelin Guide. I made a booking for it Yi Xin Restaurant at Hennessy Road, which was famous for their lemon chicken. After walking in the wrong direction i had to call up to ask exactly where they were located. After asking me if i knew the Wanchai Police Station, and some church, i asked him for the third time, if there are other prominent locations, as I did not know where the places he mentioned were. Finally, he said it, opposite the Metropark Hotel. So after laughing it off with Pam, i said okay, i know exactly where it is.
Did the waiter think i would be put off by the fact it was opposite the tainted hotel? It is afterall one of the most notorious hotels across the world right now, and everyone in HK would know where it is. Should he have told me that from the start and saved a tiring 3 minute chicken and goose speak. Would anyone say, "Oh sorry, i would like to cancel my reservation if you are opposite the Metropark Hotel?"
So i was inches away from the hotel, in what i would daresay, the cleanest district in HK at the moment. It was covered in white cloth, and it was closed for cleaning. Apparently sales for the area around the hotel dipped 30%, but because it was Mother's Day weekend, that restaurant was notably packed with big tables of families. I enjoyed the meal, and it included a pig on the menu, pig lungs soup.
